Greenbot said an enhancement Google dubbed “Project Volta” is a “suite of enhancements” that seek to “significantly boost your smartphone’s battery life.”
The developer preview of Android L lasted a whopping 36 percent longer than Android 4.4. That’s another two hours of screen-on browsing time! It’s hard to say exactly how this will translate to your own phone, loaded with a variety of different apps running the final version of Android L, but these early results are incredibly encouraging,” it said.
It said these figures were based on a standard battery test by Ars Technica on a Nexus 5 running Android 4.4 (KitKat) and the Android L preview.
The tools in the suite include:
· Battery Historian: a tool to track and visualize battery use. It can help developers profile the energy use of their apps.
· ART runtime: faster and more efficient, and may mean more battery life.
· Battery Saver mode: will lower the processor’s speed, reduce animations, dim the screen, and reduce radio usage.
· JobScheduler API: lets developers define background tasks when certain conditions are met, such as holding sync until the phone is plugged in.
