Requirements of EU Battery Regulation Battery Labeling
On August 18, 2023, the European Union Batteries and Waste Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 entered into force and was implemented simultaneously in all Member States, with the aim of steering the battery sector in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction. The new battery law imposes mandatory requirements for all types of batteries placed on the EU market (except for military and aerospace use). These requirements cover sustainability and safety, labeling, information, due diligence, battery passports, used battery management, etc. At the same time, the new battery law details the responsibilities and obligations of manufacturers, importers and distributors of batteries and battery-containing products, and establishes conformity assessment procedures and market surveillance requirements.After the implementation of the New Battery Law, Chinese enterprises exporting batteries need to focus on the following points:
First, the content of hazardous substances, whether the content of the relevant substances exceeds the limits required by the regulations.
Secondly, actively complete the CE certification of products and obtain CE certificates.
Third, pay attention to the carbon footprint requirements, based on the EU PEFCR calculation, timely supplement or update the product carbon footprint report.
Fourth, actively respond to the EPR requirements for battery recycling, organize the collection of waste batteries, as well as the research and development of key battery recycling technologies, and establish a perfect battery recycling system.
Fifth, track the latest developments of the new battery law and pay attention to the latest release of carbon footprint levels, minimum thresholds, review methods and processes.
