What is the function of each of the three wires of a lithium battery pack?

Post By : Shenzhen Tcbest Battery Industry Co., Ltd | Date : 2025/4/2 17:23:45 | Hits :

In a lithium battery pack, the three wires typically correspond to the connections for positive (P+ or B+), negative (P- or B-), and balance/voltage monitoring (usually labeled as "C" or "S").

Red line is the positive battery, black line is the negative battery, other colors of the line is the protection board of the NTC (thermistor), thermistor is for the motherboard to detect the temperature of the lithium battery or to distinguish between the types of batteries

Additional Notes:
- In multi-cell packs (e.g., 3S, 4S), there may be more than three wires (e.g., 4 wires for 3S: P+, Cell1, Cell2, P-).
- The BMS uses the third wire to protect the battery from overcharge, over-discharge, and overheating.
- If the third wire is disconnected or damaged, the BMS may cut off power** to protect the battery.
